DE Lesson Plan

Web 2.0 Lesson Template

1. Title:   Special Right Triangles: 30º - 60º - 90º and 45º - 45º - 90º
2. Grade Level/Subject:   Mathematics II – 10th Grade Level

3. Prerequisite Knowledge:   Students must be able to identify a triangle.  Students must know how many degrees the three interior angles of a triangle add to be.  Students must recognize right angles and be able to relate them to triangles.  Students must be familiar with the Pythagorean Theorem.  Students must know the difference between complementary angles and supplementary angles.
4. Approximate time for the entire lesson:  This site contains one-half of the standards for 10th grade students in Trigonometry.  There are several lesson concepts within this standard.  For my support classes, this module should take five 90-minute blocks.

5. Learning Objectives:   Students will be able to recognize and solve the two special right triangles according to their appropriate side ratios.  The students will be able to find the third side of a right triangle given two sides.  The students will be able to fully describe why these two triangles special and tell why other triangles are not.
6. Relevant Standards:
MM2G1. Students will identify and use special right triangles.

      a. Determine the lengths of sides of 30°-60°-90° triangles.

      b. Determine the lengths of sides of 45°-45°-90° triangles.
7. The Web 2.0 tool chosen to deliver the lesson:  Wiki, Flickr, YouTube, and Audacity will be utilized in these lessons.

8. Assessment to measure learning outcomes using this lesson:   The assessment will be graded right or wrong as this is the only way to ensure full mastery of the standards.  It will consist of six short answer questions in which mathematical computation will be utilized.  These six questions were picked as a pre and post assessment to evaluate what the students learned.  As will be explained to the students, a passing grade on the post assessment indicates mastery of the standard.
